Hi, I’m Jen

I’m a licensed therapist in Charleston, South Carolina offering warm, trauma-informed therapy for adults seeking healing, clarity, and a deeper connection with themselves. Many of the people I work with appear to be holding it together on the outside while internally feeling overwhelmed, anxious, shut down, or stuck in painful patterns. Therapy can be a place to slow down, make sense of what’s happening inside, and begin to heal with support.

My Background
My path to becoming a therapist began in social work, where I worked with children and adults living with HIV/AIDS in Baltimore City and alongside survivors of human trafficking and intimate partner violence.
These experiences shaped the way I understand trauma, resilience, and the importance of safe, compassionate care. I later became a licensed professional counselor and pursued advanced post-graduate training in trauma treatment, including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Brainspotting.

My Approach
My style is relational, down-to-earth, and deeply compassionate. I do not believe healing happens through judgment or pressure. I believe it happens when people feel safe enough to be real, understood, and gently supported. I integrate evidence-based approaches with a human, collaborative style of therapy that honors your pace and your nervous system. Together, we may explore patterns that no longer serve you, process unresolved pain, and build a more connected relationship with yourself.

A Personal Note
I’m also an autistic therapist, and my neurodivergence deeply informs the way I understand sensory experience, emotional overwhelm, masking, and the tenderness of being human. My lived experience allows me to create therapy spaces that are gentle, attuned, validating, and deeply respectful of difference.

Beyond the Therapy Room
In addition to my clinical work, I’m the author of Softly Wired: A Workbook for Autistic Women in a Loud, Chaotic World and Softly Wired: Reflections of an Autistic Therapist. These books reflect the heart of my therapeutic philosophy: compassion, curiosity, and honoring our inner world. Available on Amazon: https://a.co/d/00B9nhoq

Anxiety Therapy
Support for overthinking, stress, and emotional overwhelm. Anxiety can look like racing thoughts, perfectionism, difficulty relaxing, panic, irritability, or feeling constantly “on.”

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone
In-person therapy in Charleston, SC + virtual throughout South Carolina.

I offer EMDR therapy in Charleston, SC and virtually throughout South Carolina for adults seeking healing from trauma, anxiety, childhood wounds, and painful patterns that feel hard to change through insight alone.

EMDR helps process unresolved experiences.

IFS helps us understand and care for the parts of you carrying that pain.

Together, they can create deep healing in a way that feels supportive, respectful, and grounded.

What Is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer carry the same emotional intensity.

You may still remember what happened, but it no longer feels like it is happening now.

EMDR can help with:

  • Trauma
  • Anxiety
  • Panic
  • Disturbing memories
  • Relationship triggers
  • Negative self-beliefs
  • Childhood wounds

What Is IFS?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps us understand the different parts of ourselves.

You may have:

  • a part that overthinks
  • a part that shuts down
  • a part that people-pleases
  • a part carrying fear, shame, or pain

Rather than fighting these parts, we approach them with curiosity and compassion.

Why EMDR + IFS Work So Well Together

EMDR helps process unresolved experiences.

IFS helps make sure the parts of you impacted by those experiences feel understood and supported.

This can make trauma work feel:

  • gentler
  • less overwhelming
  • more relational
  • more lasting

We’re not forcing healing.

We’re creating the conditions for healing.

A Relatable Example

You may know logically that you are safe in the present, yet still feel intense anxiety when someone pulls away, criticizes you, or seems upset.

Part of you may know it’s not an emergency.

Another part reacts like it is.

EMDR can help process the old experiences underneath that reaction.

IFS helps us care for the part still trying to protect you.

Out-of-network

Many insurance plans provide partial reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services, and coverage for my services will vary depending on your insurance provider.

Insurance

Please contact your insurance company directly to determine your out-of-network coverage for outpatient psychotherapy. Below are helpful questions to ask your insurance provider to determine your out-of-network benefits:

• Do I need a referral from my primary care physician to see a mental health professional?
• Do I need pre-approval from my insurance company before I can see a mental health professional?
• What is my coverage for out-of-network providers?
• What is my yearly maximum benefit (dollar amount or number of visits)?
• Is there a deductible?

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel up to 48-business hours (Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm) in advance of your rescheduled appointment. If you do not provide 48-business hours notice, or do not arrive for your appointment, you will be charged the full fee of the session.
